Does me only being good at one thing or doing one thing make you sleep better at night?

I can’t even count the number of times people have told me to “pick one thing” and do that. I can’t count how many times I’ve tried to take their advice and choose what it is I really want to do. Wouldn’t it be easier to do just one thing and then people would understand better and maybe support me more? HA!

Fortunately, a couple years ago I came across a book titled “It’s a Jungle in there” by Steven Schussler.  Click here to purchase  This book changed my life and way of thinking and to be honest, I know that he is the founder of the Rainforest café but what I really remember from this book is him saying:

“When people tell you to choose one thing or to focus on just one thing, don’t listen them. Work on it all because when you get bored with that one thing you have the option of working on something else.”

Changed my life! A couple months ago remembering this came in handy while having lunch with a friend who is a small business owner. I wanted to do a collaboration but in the conversation we started talking about other things and she said “You know you are all over the place, choose one thing and do that.” I was like ummmmm….. really? For me when someone makes that type of statement it’s hard not to get somewhat offended because it’s like “You aren’t in my mind, it’s not that simple to focus on one thing.” Her saying that kind of fueled me to yes narrow in on my business but also to keep creating and showing that more than one thing can be done at one time.

I’m saying this as a motivation to all of you creatives in everyway DO IT ALL! Don’t limit yourself to this small ass box when you should be in an open field running wild. It’s okay to be on the outside of the box (trust me you’ll survive.)  If people don’t get “it” what you’re doing it’s not meant for them, the right people will understand, support and encourage you to keep creating the life you want to live.  It’s a guarantee!

Until Next time,
