Top 3 Artists you should be checking for!

As we welcome quarter two of 2014 I'd like to take a minute to point out a few female artist that are on my radar for the year. Lots of music enthusiasts and bloggers have their thoughts on who's next, who best, etc, etc. Which is great. I'm just hear to point out some of the young women who's sound I'll be checking for this year and think others should be checking for them too. Links to their music can be found toward the bottom.

Kelela
I'm really excited about this turn of events for RnB. Her sound is extremely unique and her voice carries well over the production. She's been getting a great response from bloggers, media outlets and festivals as well as doing tons of overseas touring. I'm excited to see her take-off this year.

King
Although I was introduced to their music about two years ago I am hoping that this is their true breakout year. King is a dynamic trio of twin sisters Amber & Paris Strother along with friend, Anita Bias. One of the most exciting things for me about this trio is that Paris has produced their music. They were granted with an amazing opportunity to open for Prince during his tour in 2013 tour and have also toured with Laura Mvula. These ladies share beautiful harmonies with their listeners and I am definitely on the lookout for more of that this year.

Mary Gold
Not at all for the faint of heart, Mary Gold is new on the scene straight out of New Orleans, LA. Her captivating sound might be disturbing to some but I've become intrigued by her haunting sound. Not quite a rapper and not quite a singer, Mary Gold introduces us to her spiritual beliefs through her music in a unique and uncomfortable way. I like art that makes me uncomfortable (which in turn, make me comfortable. I like Mary Gold.

Peace,
Rae
